The town of Rocky Harbour is located between two prominent landmarks; Salmon Point and Lobster Cove Head. Those landmarks are located at the northern entrance to beautiful Bonne Bay. The town gets its name gets its name from the reef of rocks at the entrance to the harbour.  The town consists of six major areas which spread all around the harbour;

Lobster Cove

Named for the vast number of lobsters.

Woody Cove

Cove with a growth of timber.

Bear Cove

Bears visited this area and caused havoc.

Bottom

Located at the base of the harbour.

Rocky Harbour Cove

Very deep cove, great for anchoring large boats.

Rocky Harbour Pond On the road to Norris Point.  A local swimming hole favorite.

Rocky Harbour now has a population of 1068, a fully trained volunteer fire department of 25 members with one fully equipped fire truck, an all grade school, public library and community access center all under one roof, five churches, community hall, an arena, new recycling building, post office, bank, RCMP detachment, two hotel/motels, cottages, housekeeping units and several bed & breakfast facilities, restaurants & take outs, pizza, grocery convenience and craft stores, bakeries, Laundromat, beauty salons, productive fish plant, several service organizations, campgrounds, hardware store, and sports groups.

Rocky Harbour is an enclave within Gros Morne National Park and thus residents and tourist alike are close to boat tours, hiking trails with spectacular views, heated indoor swimming pool with hot tub, and cross-county ski trails in season.

The Town of Rocky Harbour is becoming very productive especially in the summer with the fishery and tourism, and with the increasing interest in snowmobiling, hockey, figure skating and cross-country skiing, we are hoping to be productive in the winter as well as summer.

Rocky Harbour is still growing and hopefully, with the tourism trade and the fishery, will continue to be a thriving community.
